Laparoscopic, or minimally invasive surgery became popular in the 1990s. However, urologists keen to adopt it found the learning curve steep, with limited movements when using the “chopstick” instruments, resulting in high surgeon fatigue.
“Nothing is more dangerous than a tired surgeon,” Chin says.
“The robots can be used to repair and reconstruct uterine defects to minimize the risk of miscarriages,” Nair says, adding the trend in surgeries is now toward less and less invasive surgery.
“The machine can be used to perform two prostate surgeries in a day, since it requires a lot of time for its preparation,” Chin says.
