"Stranger things have happened. A possible model to bring peace to Isreal/Palestine conflict is the S. African one. It could begin by a process of truth telling (each side acknowledges its "sins" against the other) The next step would be followed, hopefully, by reconciliation. This assumes that the each side concludes this: That to continue to do the same thing again and again is folly to the nth degree

If such wisdom could take root in the two peoples, then perhaps a single state solution is the route to peace? Arab population increase may frighten the Isreali electoate but perhaps some Lani Guirier method of weighed voting arrangement - multiple vote arrangement, where votes for representatives could be multiple so that the minority could lump its votes together to insure that the "minority" always has significant representation, could dampen fear of the majority rule. I believe that the whites in S. African reached such agreements with the other side to do this, before they releniquished its Apartiheid reins, where the whites were 1/10th the black population. This agreement in S. Africa still holds."

coolwire...

I think you answered your own question - the whites in South Africa tried the voting ploy and look at them now. They now have no voice in South Africa other than the quickly diminishing economic power they wield. A single state solution of any form would be a death knell to the idea of a Jewish State and as such is totally unacceptable (rightly so) to the Israelis - I am quite sure that after initially posturing for the immediate elimination of the Jews, the palestinians would leap at such a solution. For that reason alone (there are many other reasons it would not work) such a solution is dead, as is any proposal that includes the so called "right of return", which is an absurd idea except to those who want to see the demise of the Jewish State.

I state again - there will be no peace between Israel and the palestinians in this era. The palestinians do not want real peace, nor do the other arab countries. The only acceptable goal in their eyes is the elimination of Israel as a Jewish State.
