It's so obvious. The cause of the blindness is....prolly a little different for all of them....on the surface. Underneath it all is denial. They just can't face the world they've created. They've lived their lives as drunkards, angry fools and privileged, spoiled rich kids who think they're wonderful human beings because they "empathize" with the working man by posting pictures of flowers on iHub.

Their world is crashing around them and they can't handle it, so they strike out at anyone who dares to disrupt their fantasies. I'd like to feel sorry for them, but I can't. Unlike sociopaths who can't help themselves, they could make a difference but refuse to do so. As you say, these spineless, self-centered sycophants, who don't deserve to be called human beings, "will be the first to come begging on hands and knees to be saved".
