In some locations, and I apologize as I may have spoken too soon yesterday, but in some locations, the so called Prevailing wage is much higher than the market wage. I've ran across this on some contracts. An example would be in San Diego, I bid on a contract with prevailing wage provisions, additionally, there was a provision unbeknownst to me that I had to use Local Apprentices on the jobsite ( 20 % of my labor force ) that were supplied by the local union. For a month, they wouldn't even return my calls. Finally, because of their own ineptitude, I got a waiver for that part of the rule, If I didn't, the fines would've been ludicrus. If I remember correctly, I would've had to pay the apprentice approximately 15.00 per hour, plus approximately 6.00 per hour in fringes. That is multiples above the market rate. Just think, 21 per hour for little to no experience. Nice work huh.
