This Pharaoh thing was brought up only because you guys kept dissing traditional Christians (after mistakenly assuming me to be one) and indulging in silly "atheist" superiority complex. Little did you know that the state-worship that you guys are indulging in is even more primitive than the traditional theistic religions.

Pharaoic rule represented the original unlimited and unchecked state power; the state is divine!

Judaism postulated a need for super-natural divine validation of earthly rule; i.e. the earthly ruler is not supreme.

By the time the Jesus story became popular, the super-natural divine became an alternative power center and check on earthly rule.

By the time after Enlightenment, the leading liberal discovery was that the postulation of a specific divinity may not be necessary; Natural Law, or what had been thought of as divine, check and balance on power is actually provided by independent individual acting on self-interest; therefore respect the individual rights of each other.

You guys are so atavistic as to push the intellectual time line all the way back to unchecked state power, and worship the omniscience and omnipotence of the state itself! What that leads to in the political sphere is totalitarianism and mutual slaughter. What's worse is that when that kind of mutual slaughter comes around, idealists like yourselves can not possibly survive; it's the worst scums of the earth that floats to the top in that kind of totalitarian system.
