New genetically altered corn developed by Monsanto (MON +1.2%) aimed at helping farmers deal with drought offers more hype than help over the long term, the Union for Concerned Scientists says. MON's corn "does not appear to be superior to several recent classically bred varieties of drought-tolerant corn" and does not outperform non-engineered alternatives, the group says
