neither HDL nor LDL cause or prevent heart failure
"Heart failure" and myocardial infarction (heart attack) are two quite different conditions - the latter are caused by clots. Beta blockers reduce the stress on the heart by reducing pulse rate and increasing stroke volume. Only a select few beta blockers are effective in heart failure, but they are widely used after a heart attack. Cholesterol levels are correlated with heart attack rates, but not to my knowledge with heart failure.
