It might sound weird but the Katrina-like hurrican catastrophy in normal circumstances would be a bullish event. You might remember FDR pulled the US out of a recession/depression by "making work" building bridges, roads, dams, etc. The amount of work created by an event of this magnitude will be massive. Sadly, because we have an incompetent administration led by, probably, the most incompetent President in US history, the deficit is going to go even further through the roof. If Bush's ratings were low before this - his ratings will probably fall lower than any President in US history after this. The "terrorist" organizations around world leaders who were against the US oil-grab invasion of Iraq, must be laughing their heads off at how badly Bush responded to this horror. Hopefully, the terrorists have made no plans to damage any nuclear facilities. If successful, I shudder to think how a nuclear catastrophy it would be handled.

Economically, it would be a plus for the US if it wasn't for countries like China and Mexico who will prosper from manufacturing many the things required to rebuild and relocate the population. If that money was mostly going to US factories it would be a shot in the arm for the US economy but it isn't. The only way to fix this and to keep that incredible mess in Iraq going is to print more $$$'s. A LOT more $$$'s and the world is already awash in US currency.

Could be that Pokersam's prediction is correct about the big stock market drop but I'm not to sure about the NAZ 3000 figure.

One last comment concerning the "looters" which a phone-in caller brought up on the Stephanie Miller Show this morning. I should preface it by saying I fully support the call for "shoot to kill" orders being given to any officer catching a "looter". However, the caller wondered if Bush's friend Ken Lay (one of the biggest "looter's" in US history) should also be subjected to that "shoot to kill" rule. An order I would also support.
