My understanding is the agreement signed in Afghan today between Pres Obama and Afghan Pres Karzai takes effect in 2014, the year U.S. troops were scheduled to be withdrawn from Afghan, and commits the U.S. to be involved in Afghan until 2024. Hopefully Obama will give more details tonight...i.e. will U.S. combat troops remain after 2014? - and if so, how many? or will we leave troops to train the Afghan army? - which unfortunately many times leads to combat troops getting involved again.
