I cannot speak first hand to the likes of coke and ups. I can however tell you from experience the pharmaceutical industry licenses everything. Including the hand held devices and software for physician signatures.
Pharm companies are in the business of drug development and commercialization. Its common for big pharma companies to utilize the same software solutions but they will integrate them differently based on their corporate requirements.
With the regulation coming down on all sectors companies are tightening their belts.
