MARKET TALK: Maxim Sees Little Downside For Nook Partnership
04/30 03:29 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3:28 (Dow Jones) Maxim says Barnes & Noble's (BKS:$20.75,00$7.07,0051.68%) $605M deal with Microsoft (MSFT:$32.015,0$0.035,00.11%) involving Nook and the retailer's college business "is a huge endorsement" of BKS CEO William Lynch "and his global strategy. Worst case, MSFT may spend a small amount of money (for MSFT) to market Windows 8 and get access to colleges, where Apple (AAPL) is extremely strong. Best case, BKS becomes a serious contender with Amazon (AMZN:$231.90,00$5.05,002.23%) and NOOK becomes a leading global player in the consumer and educational markets." As such, Maxim boosts its price target on BKS to $32 from $20; shares are up 57% at $21.42 after earlier getting as high as $ 26. (kevin.kingsbury@dowjones.com)
