The most popular chip from the people that I talk to is the 4400 chip because of cache. I haven't heard of shortages of the other chips and the real price has actually dropped so I'd guess that supply issues aren't a huge issue right now. BTW, which Opteron processor costs thousands of dollars? I think that the highest that I've seen is in the $1,500 area.
