and looking across the span of human history, I think ya gotta admit this is a pretty friggin' amazing moment of time and place to be here

'Amazing' works for me in a lot of things....but not for our very survival. I would substitute the word 'terrifying' for 'amazing' because I'm feeling pretty terrified right about now. People during other centuries probably also felt it was hopeless, but they didn't have the capacity to destroy the planet as we seem to be on the fast track of accomplishing.
