MSN Offers Local Search for Mobile Devices
Mon Aug 15, 2005 3:32 pm
Collaborating to deliver local search tools for mobile devices, MSN Search and MSN Mobile teams have released MSN Local Search Beta. Available to all U.S. users, Mobile Search is available on Windows Mobile devices as well as well as new phones with WAP 2.0 browsers.
By visiting http://mobile.msn.com and selecting "Beta Services" from the main menu, users can enter search terms (i.e. "coffee" or "Starbucks") and locations (zip code, city / state or full street address) allowing users to search for a restaurant, store, school, dentist, museum - basically anything listed in the Yellow Pages and White Pages.
Recently searched locations are even stored and easily accessible. Results include name, address, distance from the current location and phone number - which users can dial by simply clicking.
Color maps and turn-by-turn driving directions between the starting location and result address are both editable; features specially designed to work on mobile devices requiring minimal interaction and optimized for speed and ease of use. Enhancements such as SMS and "send to phone" are also planned for the next coming months.
