…CT orders (confidential sec filings)…are they ever released/public or do they stay confidential for an indeterminate time?

The duration of confidentiality is not indefinite, but rather is specified in the SEC filing. The period of confidentiality is usually long enough to run well beyond the point where the information in question would have any material value to competitors.
