St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann says the county needs to wait a little longer to buy new voting machines. Ehlmann vetoed a $1.2 million measure to buy more than 200 new machines. Ehlmann says there needs to be more than one state certified manufacturer to provide the equipment in order to keep the price down.

County Elections Director Rich Chrismer is urging the council to override the veto. Chrismer says delaying for two or three years until there's a second vender could mean current machines become unreliable and the county would lose a federal grant to cover part of the cost.
