if RJ gets canned from the company and owned shares (says he didn't but let's talk hypothetically here), you'd want to buyout his shares to get him entirely out of the business, no votes, no control (from Ken's point of view).
Who's to say that didn't actually happen, or did we get share structure that might have shown it? I really can't believe that RJ never had shares and I gotta believe that he wouldn't just walk away empty handed. Then again, if he was doing things that were blatantly illegal, Ken might have looked the other way just to make him go away.
