One of the links was broken, but I'm not sure what conclusion you drew from them. The one graph (last link) shows that the government still funds about 25% of the research - are you suggesting this is a small amount?

You quote MIT's royalty revenue of $69m - there federal grant funding is likely ~10x higher than that if I had to estimate.
