Let's be cautious here - to not take something out of context - in other words, lets not tell only part of the story, which can create unnecessary concern.

The inspections are required under the FAA "aging aircraft" (not "aged") mandates, as a result of fatigue-related stress and intergranular corrosion problems in older aircraft - that is nothing new, as it is several decades old now.

Maintenance is not my forte, but I am around people daily who deal with these inspections, as nearly every airline in the country have had to deal with, and the inspections are very thorough, requiring sophisticated X-Ray machines that detect cracks and intergranular corrosion long before serious problems can occur - and are required to be repaired/replaced prior to the the aircraft being returned to service.

Baltia's aircraft (the one from Kalitta) was NOT sitting in the desert for a long period of time, as it and its sister ship were flying 26 months ago full of passengers in the Delta Airlines system, after the Delta/NWA merger.

If Baltia's ship recently went through the required inspections, you can rest assured that it is "compliant" with FAR's, and meets or exceeds the maintenance and safety standards that all of the airlines in the great country of ours have to adhere to.

And unless you know the specifics of the major components on this aircraft (Ldg Gears, flt controls, etc etc), and have knowledge of Baltia's inventory of spares, it is a little presumptuous of you to predict what Baltia's options will be when a "D" check is due. In general, I might agree with you about -200's out there - yet some carriers who are still operating them, have a large inventory of spares that make their "D" checks economical enough to continue service - especially considering the cost of other equipment. Capital costs vs. Operating costs - depends on utilization, and other factors.
