When one has small dogs they usually do not have to worry about food disappearing from the kitchen counter. They can grab things from the coffee table if stuff is left too close to the edge. Also, since the end tables are right up against the arms of the furniture goodies are easily accessible. No one leaves food unattended if everyone is out of the room.

At home whenever we come in from outdoors or are heading to the kitchen we have to do what we call the Shih Tzu shuffle so we don't step on any of the little ones.
