The upgrade from grandfathered to lifetime accomplishes nothing except give the grandfathered member a warm, fuzzy feeling (you've got my guarantee on that) and changes the icon in their profile from the grandfather image to the dollar sign.

Grandfathered accounts are lifetime accounts, so they will not expire.
