It was my understanding that Josephus documented the existence of Jesus, and that Josephus was a Pharisee who was somewhat "sympathetic" to Jesus - whatever that means, and I could be wrong. I know for sure the writings of Josephus were controversial, and that the writings (translations, interpretations, etc) were subject to "revisions" based on the bias of the writer. I also thought that early religious "scholars" were inclined to label as "blasphemy" ideas that were inconsistent with, or contrary to, their own. But I could be wrong....
