Jul 25, 2005 (streetinsider.com via COMTEX) --The Dow finished 54.70 points lower to close at 10,597, the Nasdaq fell 13 points to close at 2,167 and the S&P 500 lost 4.65 points to close at 1,229.
The markets closed out the trading session in the red today, despite record home sales and news that Teva Pharmaceutical Industries (Nasdaq: TEVA) is acquiring rival Ivax Corp. (AMEX: IVX) in a cash-and-stock deal worth approximately $7.4 billion., as earnings disappointed and oil prices rose.
Volume was light with 1.70 billion shares trading on the NYSE and 1.52 billion on the Nasdaq. Decliners outpaced advancers today by a margin of 21:12 on the NYSE and by 19:12 on the Nasdaq.
In individual stories, Synergx (Nasdaq: SYNX RT$) closed 60.26% higher as homeland security stocks saw momentum following the bombings in Egypt and last week's London news. On the downside, Harvest Natural (NYSE: HNR RT$) closed 17.52% lower after receiving a preliminary income tax assessment claim of $85 million from the SENIAT, the Venezuelan income tax authority.
Tomorrow, traders will be watching for data on Consumer Confidence, which is due to hit the wires at 10:00 A.M.

IGN311 is a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting the Lewis-Y antigen that is being developed as a potential new therapy for the treatment of certain epithelial tumors.
Under the agreements, Igeneon granted Celltrion a license to commercialize IGN311 in certain Asian countries, including Japan. In return, Igeneon will receive from Celltrion milestone payments totalling $6 million. In addition, Celltrion will provide development and manufacturing services related to the optimization and upscaling of IGN311 and will produce material for further clinical development.

Jul 24, 2005 (streetinsider.com via COMTEX) --Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE: WHR) announced on Friday that the company has increased the value of its proposal to acquire Maytag (NYSE: MYG) to $18 per Maytag share from $17 per share.
In response to the revised proposal, Maytag has determined the new offer may reasonably be expected to lead to a transaction that is financially superior to Maytag's pending transaction with the Ripplewood-led Triton Acquisition group and that is reasonably capable of being completed. Under Maytag's existing merger agreement with Triton Acquisition, this determination is a prerequisite for Maytag to furnish information to, and have discussions and negotiations with, Whirlpool.

Jul 25, 2005 (streetinsider.com via COMTEX) --The Dow finished 54.70 points lower to close at 10,597, the Nasdaq fell 13 points to close at 2,167 and the S&P 500 lost 4.65 points to close at 1,229.
The markets closed out the trading session in the red today, despite record home sales and news that Teva Pharmaceutical Industries (Nasdaq: TEVA) is acquiring rival Ivax Corp. (AMEX: IVX) in a cash-and-stock deal worth approximately $7.4 billion., as earnings disappointed and oil prices rose.
Volume was light with 1.70 billion shares trading on the NYSE and 1.52 billion on the Nasdaq. Decliners outpaced advancers today by a margin of 21:12 on the NYSE and by 19:12 on the Nasdaq.
In individual stories, Synergx (Nasdaq: SYNX RT$) closed 60.26% higher as homeland security stocks saw momentum following the bombings in Egypt and last week's London news. On the downside, Harvest Natural (NYSE: HNR RT$) closed 17.52% lower after receiving a preliminary income tax assessment claim of $85 million from the SENIAT, the Venezuelan income tax authority.
Tomorrow, traders will be watching for data on Consumer Confidence, which is due to hit the wires at 10:00 A.M.

IGN311 is a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting the Lewis-Y antigen that is being developed as a potential new therapy for the treatment of certain epithelial tumors.
Under the agreements, Igeneon granted Celltrion a license to commercialize IGN311 in certain Asian countries, including Japan. In return, Igeneon will receive from Celltrion milestone payments totalling $6 million. In addition, Celltrion will provide development and manufacturing services related to the optimization and upscaling of IGN311 and will produce material for further clinical development.

(Nasdaq: MCRL) issued a statement regarding today's jury decision in the Micrel, Inc. versus TRW Automotive law suit in the Federal District Court, Cleveland, Ohio. The jury ruled against Micrel, awarding damages to TRW Automotive in the amount of approximately $9 million dollars.
The company said it is reviewing their legal options and considering filing an appeal.

Jul 24, 2005 (streetinsider.com via COMTEX) --Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE: WHR) announced on Friday that the company has increased the value of its proposal to acquire Maytag (NYSE: MYG) to $18 per Maytag share from $17 per share.
In response to the revised proposal, Maytag has determined the new offer may reasonably be expected to lead to a transaction that is financially superior to Maytag's pending transaction with the Ripplewood-led Triton Acquisition group and that is reasonably capable of being completed. Under Maytag's existing merger agreement with Triton Acquisition, this determination is a prerequisite for Maytag to furnish information to, and have discussions and negotiations with, Whirlpool.
