As typical of the dead mind's of the world populace this movie is no longer available via Amazon except through a third party.
It is a GREAT MOVIE, Patricia Arquette should have been nominated and received Best Actress Award---but YAWN said the public, this movie is about reality---how DULL. Beyond Rangoon its name for any who care.

This is categorically John Boorman's worst film in which all involved are more interested in making a political statement rather than a movie.

The story follows Patricia Arquette's character who's a doctor suffering from PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) after her family is murdered. A friend invites her to go on vacation in Burma to cheer her up but she is caught in a clash between political demonstrators and the military regime that rules the country. Suddenly she is filled with vigor and fights along side the poor oppressed proletariat.

One lengthened word for this film: B-o-o-o-o-o-ring! The screenplay is so superficial it might as well be a 'Free Tibet' bumpersticker.(edit:that remark is pure EVIL---these people be the scum of the earth--by the way i am not kidding, i am totally sincere in my unlimited contempt of these people--welles) This movie is primarily appealing to nostalgic hippies and pseudo-intellectual pacifists. As I said earlier, this film is so pretentious that it forgets the film/entertainment aspect of its mission. If Boorman was so concerned about getting the message through he should have made a documentary instead of this crap. Unless you really care about the activist Aung San Suu Kyi, don't bother watching this film as it has nothing to offer other than its appeal to your pity.>>

from an old post of mine--since this post this movie is no longer available from Amazon this takes you to the post
