If we really wanted to extend this ridiculous discussion, i would point out that using Dew's assumption that 0.05 was chosen because 5 is the number of appendages on one side of the body. Since insects have 3 appendages on each side of their body, the magic p value would be 0.03 not 0.06, which means fewer drugs would be approved.

And,yes, 0.05 is arbitrary.
