some news I think everyone has heard by now...

Enfamil recall 2011 was reportedly initiated by major retailer Walmart on Thursday, December 22, 2011. Walmart has voluntarily recalled Enfamil Newborn Formula milk from its 3,000 retail stores. The Walmart Enfamil recall was made as a precautionary measure by Walmart after Avery Cornett, a Missouri newborn, died from a rare infection. The major retailer and heath officials are now waiting for the result of the tests being conducted on the powdered infant formula, according to reports by several international news sites on Friday, December 23, 2011.

Health officials has not yet determined the source of the bacteria that caused the infection. Reports say the these bacteria naturally occurs in plants that include wheat and rice, dried milk and powdered formula.

Mead Johnson, manufacturer of Enfamil, has not officially recalled the infant formula. The company reported that initial tests showed that batch of infant formula does not contain the bacteria. Further tests however is still ongoing.

Walmart spokeswoman Dianna Gee explained that they “decided it was best to remove the product until we learn more.” She adds that the Enfamil Newborn Formula “could be returned to the shelves.”

Customers can return the formula in 12.5-ounce cans with lot number ZP1K7G avail of the refund or replacement of the item.

Investigation on the newborn’s death is being conducted by several agencies that include the Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control, and the Missouri Department of Health.
