Personally, I think God is far more inclusive than organized religion assumes. Regardless, both Judaism and Christianity do provide the tradition and basis for moral living. And moral living, rather than specific doctrine, is most important.

"Personal" thoughts are fine, but since we are not able to save ourselves or anyone else, they don't count much. We have to hear God and obey (meaning believe him and let that belief affect our actions).
