I kind a agree with the post you made about throwing more money at the problem. Did you know the highest returns in the world, with some caveats, are in raw materials from Africa. It is a good investment that never seems to help the people of Africa all that much.
But the rhetoric here is just that more anti liberal rhetoric. It is laced with all the usual categories and obligatory terms. People all over do care and many of them believe that you and I as consumers can make better choices. That is why people talk about knowing who grows your coffee, what is a sustainable economy for a rain forest. What is good for Starbucks is not necessarily good for the people who grow the coffee.
