"Wasn’t there an even more outlandish post where someone claimed Aventis sold Camptosar to PFE in order to free up Aventis’ oncology salesforce to focus exclusively on Genasense!!?"
I remember that well since that poster was arguing with me! I recall exactly who it is. But you know, to be honest, the number of outlandish statements made by longs on that thread is so voluminous that it's almost impossible to pick which one was most "outlandish".
Consider a few of these gems...
1. Despite the fact the Phase III trials had not even been completed, Genasense was going to launch any day pursuant to an "FDA Directive". You see, the Agency 'knew' what a life-saving therapy this was and they were going to mandate that Dr. Warrell and Genta immediately launch the product.
2. Sanofi paid ~$60 billion to acquire Aventis because they wanted to get AVE's ownership rights to Genasense.
3. Despite the fact the drug cannot cross the BBB, there was going to be off-label sales in Japan in the treatment of brain cancer. {Yes, you read that right...Japan!!!!)
4. Genasense doubles survival in prostate cancer.
5. Dr. Warrell was gong to be awarded a nobel prize for his discovery of the cure for cancer (never mind that he had nothing to do with the discovery of oblimersen).
I could go on and on, but if you weren't following that saga, you missed a real hoot. They were absolutely convinced that even PGS was a paid basher working for some hedge fund. It was such a blast, but it's lost much of its entertainment value.
Only in biotech.
