Gold in the crust moves around a lot more than seems reasonable when you think of rocks as more or less static things...

Thinking that the entire crust has probably been recycled more than once in the long history of the planet gives you a more dynamic perspective, that is probalby a lot more useful in thinking about geological processes, and the origin of gold, and its deposition and remobilization, erosion, aggregation, remelting, etc. The reality of how it got where it is can be a fairly dynamic thing, and it isn't as easy to unravel the puzzle as you'd think, if you thought of rocks as solids that don't move or change much...
