Why don't you trade the index (futures)? It simplifies trying to watch a whole bunch of stocks. Going long or short is the same difference, no waiting for an uptick to short.. I suppose you could also trade the QQQ, SPY or DIA. Managing one position is easier in my view. I use the eminis on the SPX, but whatever one is most comfortable with. FWIW
