While we do indeed need to move, why would anyone put mission-critical servers on a piece of dirt that will eventually be a Pacific island, and risk the painful but inevitable transition to get there?

The answer is, of course, because it's a very nice place to live for the people who make those decisions, and be damned the consequences. It's appalling how many multinational companies have their data centers parked on top of active fault lines.
