In an attempt to maximize the apparent harm from a PI Amphastar’s lawyers overplayed their cards and lost credibility, IMO, by answering one year to the Judge’s question. Had they said it would 3-4 months to prepare for trial, the answer would have been believable.

You made a logic flip error - he answered that 'In the event a PI is enforced against me it will take me a year to develop a case.'. He was, if anything, saying that 'hey, a PI wouldn't hurt me much and my case is very much an uphill battle'. He was NOT maximizing his harm from a PI - by answering 1 year he was, if anything, saying 'the harm from a PI is small and/or making my case will be very difficult'.
