RE: housing/economy-------thought i'd pass on some anecdotal evidence relating to the aforementioned topic. i own a condo in scottsdale, ariz.; generally a winter haven for the northern snowbirds. we've rented it out during the prime season(jan-apr) for about six yrs now. the first 3 yrs. we got 3500 per mo.; the next 2 we dropped the rent to an avg. of 2500 in order to lease it; last yr. we had to reduce it again by a few hundred and thus were able to rent it for a couple of months. this year, although we had further dropped our asking price, we have not only failed as yet to lease it but no one has even inquired. draw your own conclusions but to me it speaks volumes. secondly, last weekend CENTEX ran an ad offering free appliances, 1000.00 lowes gift certificate and builder discounts ranging from 3600.00 to 20,000.00 on all "inventory" homes. not sure if this campaign is just localized but i thought i'd pass it on for the boards consideration.
