Iowans spread blame for economy A poll finds that 88% think political sniping in Congress is thwarting job creation. Poll highlights Here are highlights from the Jobs First poll, taken by 502 registered Iowa voters. It has a 4.4 percent margin of error: Who is hurting U.S. job creation: 59 percent, Republicans in Congress; 56 percent, big business; 52 percent, congressional Democrats; 50 percent, tea party supporters; 46 percent, labor; and 45 percent, President Barack Obama. Invest in jobs or cut deficit: 59 percent support government focusing on job-creation efforts, even if it means spending money and delaying deficit reduction; 28 percent prefer to focus on immediate deficit reduction, which might cost jobs. Job-creation roadblocks: 88 percent believe political infighting is hindering job creation, and majorities feel that both parties in CongSress and large corporations are hindrances. Creating strategy: 74 percent believe a national strategy to boost American manufacturing offers the greatest potential for job creation of eight strategies mentioned. Tax cuts: About two in three say tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations would have little or no impact on job creation. Level playing ground: 64 percent consider trade inequities with China a major obstacle to job creation in the United States. Job loss: 56 percent of Iowans report that they themselves, a friend, relative or neighbor is either unemployed or working part time because of the inability to find a full-time job.
