sometimes new ideas are good, sometimes they are not.
sometimes conserving ideas is good, sometimes it is not.

if you define liberal as new, then anything new is liberal, then any new idea that is good becomes liberal no matter who is behind it, and the circle is complete.

conserving the union was a good idea, conserving constitutional rights is good
