simple answer - couple reasons.

1. If Starr can "prove in court" that CCME was willfully deceiving him, his investment firm retains some measure of credibility, and is not perceived as being part of the scam. They still look dumb for falling for it, but not quite as bad.

2. By filing a claim, they would have a more senior creditor status if and when CCME ends up in the Chinese equivalent of Chapter 11.

3. Proof of such malfeasance on the part of CCME might trigger some package of "make-good" shares to Starr, giving them a bigger piece of whatever pie is left.

If I could afford to buy all of them, I would not need to buy any of them and I sure wouldn't be spending time on the message boards!
