The last few minutes before you move onto the other side and and you get officially evicted from this one, you have absolutely nothing left to lose.

Every fiber of your body would feel nothing but pure fear, regret, remorse, the possibility of hell fire looms (even if you are atheist)...you will come clean and hope what comes next is not as bad as it might have been had you not asked for forgiveness.

If he did it, he would have looked them dead in the eye and said "Please forgive me".

Proof or no proof, rare for a fearful human being to take such heavy burden along to the other side.
