AMSC sued former top customer Sinovel Wind Group in China alleging theft of the company’s intellectual property. In a conference call with analysts, American Superconductor said that a rogue former employee stole software code from the company – and is now in jail on corporate espionage charges.

As noted in my previous post, the company alleges that Sinovel “illegally obtained and used AMSC’s intellectual property to upgrade its 1.5 megawatt wind turbines in the field to meet proposed Chinese grid codes and to potentially allow for the use of core electrical components from other manufacturers.”
