*****(From Yahoo) Kelly also told the electric power conference that Calpine is wringing more efficiencies from its fleet of gas-fired power plants by reducing heat rates in electricity generation.

That could reduce operating costs by $230 million in 2007, he said.

Kelly also noted that hot weather is moving into Texas, where Calpine has 11 power stations.

Rising temperatures push up demand for air conditioning and should help improve "spark spreads" -- electricity profit margins.

Year-to-date weather nationally is now 12 percent warmer than normal as measured by "cooling degree" days, a measure used in energy trading, according to a report on Tuesday by Banc of America Securities.

"We expect a big electric production number next week as these numbers lag weather data by a week," Shelby Tucker, Banc of America analyst, said.*******
