That's what's happened to the bears the past week, they pumped the "worst holiday season in..." news all december, only to have that backfire on them in January. The market discounts future events, I don't know why anyone cared about the dec sales figures, except for short term trades on the bad news. Now the market is pricing in what's going to happen later this year, which direction that is is still anyone's guess. But calling for new lows based on last quarters economic numbers is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Not that you did that, just a general statement.
