Tea Party leader jokes about killing a president

Sumter, South Carlina, Tea Party chair Sherry Lanford Smith has taken her Facebook page private after using it to joke about throwing Barack and Michelle Obama out of a helicopter.

On Aug. 11, Smith wrote the following:

“Obama looked at Michelle, chuckled and said, ‘You know, I could throw a $1,000 bill out of the window right now and make somebody very happy.’ Michelle shrugged her shoulders and replied, ‘I could throw 10 $100 bills out of the window and make 10 people very happy.’

“Hearing their exchange, the pilot of the plane said to his co-pilot, ‘Such big shots back there. I could throw both of them out of the window and make 256 million people very happy.’

“If you’re one of the 256 million, PASS IT ON.”

The entry was pulled and the Facebook page privatized after Smith’s local newspaper, the Sumter Item, caught wind of the entry.

On Monday, Tea Party Patriots reacted to a hit from Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters — who said the Tea Party could “go straight to hell” — by complaining of a lack of civility by the Democrats.

Tea Party Chair In SC Posts Joke On Facebook About Killing The Obamas

The Chair of the Sumter South Carolina Tea Party posted -- and then quickly pulled -- a post on her Facebook page earlier this month that joked about throwing the Obamas out of a helicopter.

Shery Lanford Smith posted the the joke on her Facebook [ http://www.facebook.com/shery.smith?sk=wall ] page on August 11th. The page is now private.

In the joke, the Obamas are on a helicopter talking about how they could make people happy if they threw money out the window. The pilot says: "I could throw both of them out of the window and make 256 million people very happy!" Smith added: "If you're one of 256 million, PASS IT ON."

Smith reportedly pulled the joke after the Sumter Item [ http://www.theitem.com/news/local_news/article_386a73ba-572c-5016-bb32-0b2144127323.html ] contacted her about it. Here's an earlier screenshot, via the Item:



"It's just a joke," she told the Item. "I had no idea it would be an issue."
