AMD is indeed walking away from UMC...

Now you're getting the picture.
AMD is leaving a trail of dead agreements in their wake - with DEC, then IBM, then Motorola, then UMC, and now...back to IBM.

This is a desperate act by a desperate company that is in dire financial straights.
