You or the company can't control what the market does
That is not really a fair statement, as a company cannot explicitly control what the market does, but the decision they make and how they present them can influence the market. There are any number of instances where a CEO says something off the cuff during a Conference Call and it ends up impacting pps. The CEO may be like a sailboat captain in that the sailboat captain may not be able to control the waters or the wind, but he can often set his sail and rutter in such a manner that will get him to his destination.
I am not saying that I am 100% right, but I would say that your statement is absolutely wrong. It is clear as day that the market reacted to putting a date of release and possibly the right PR person could have steered them in a direction that was more beneficial to the pps! For a sailboat captain, when a mistake is made, it does not always mean they will not get to the destination... it just means that it is a mistake that needs to be corrected.
I think it is irresponsible to say that the company had no control over what happened and just move on. I think the pps and overall financial health is ALWAYS the responsibility of the company. It is worthwhile to examine what happened and move forward.
