J11, glad you're back on the board tonight. I'm looking for a couple answers, and I think you can help. Why on the demo video did the .50 cal AP penetrate the "Fat Boy" plate all the way thru 2 plates and the spectra and damage the 500 Brinell steel behind it? Does that mean the fragments would have exited the plate, spectra and spall if the Brinell had not been there?
We could see the Brinell plate was damaged.
Anyway - The 7/14 PR release from the "Dugway" demo said the "Fat Boy" took multiple AP rounds on BOTH sides with NO penetration...does that mean no penetration thru the "Fat Boy" plate or no penetration thru the Brinell BEHIND it? Because that would be accurate. If the PR was inaccurate or unintentionally misleading, it would be great to have clarification.
So - are we talking about using KRYRON as an add-on up-armor for MRAPS, SRATS and HELOS because it is lighter and more blast resistant than the composite in use now?
Also, any help on where we are in the NIJ cert process would be great. JB made a statement at the demo that I transcibed. It sounded like BORK had to comply with NIJ specs (after BORK had written its own the first time and were rejected). That sounds like we are near square one testing before BORK can re-certify. Is that right? Are we looking to wait until 2012 for NIJ cert as "flatcat" has suggested?
Thanks for reading and any update, J11.
