I've noticed the same type of stuff, Joan. When they teach things like math in school today, did you know they don't use the word "subtraction" in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades here anymore? They call it "take away" instead. If I use the word subtraction when teaching my son math, I get a "deer in the headlight" look.
We use to have classes that taught us things like how to write out a check, balance a bank account, address an envelope correctly...whatever happened to all this stuff?
Have we dumbed down the system so badly that our children won't even be able to function in day-to-day life?
Man, that's the makings of a major disaster.
