Re: It's too bad that most of them choose to take people like Dan3, Doug, and Pete Gerrasi seriously, because it makes the smart ones look stupid by comparison.
Boy, the Intel squads are in a bad way lately. They're terrified of even trying to contradict the posts made about issues at Intel, so they're reduced to making personal attacks on the posters, instead, hoping to divert attention from what's happened at Intel.
Here's what happened:
Intel can't make a 64-bit mobile chip because it would use too much power. They announced that. It's what has happened.
One thing Yonah won't have, at least initially, is the ability to run 64-bit applications.
"We made a conscious decision not to include it" because of the impact on battery life, Eden said. http://news.com.com/Intel+spills+beans+on+Yonah%2C+the+next+notebook+chip/2100-1006_3-5729925.html?t....
Either the chip design of Intel's mobile parts isn't very good (and I personally think it's their best chip, it's just not quite good enough) or Intel's process isn't good enough. Or maybe a little of both.
There go the mobile margins.
Meanwhile, AMD is sweeping into the workstation market almost unopposed.
AMD has gone from near 0% to 6% in the server market, but, much more significant, they've gone to 10% of the server market if you exclude single chip "servers."
That's a big deal.
AMD is making so much progress, even in such a conservative segment, because AMD's products are so much better than Intel's. Intel's process is so leaky, that computers based on Intel CPUs are like cars with blown head gaskets that rattle down the road spewing clouds of smoke. Except in the case of Intel PCs, it's waves of heat.
