If they came to arrest your neighbor that you believe to be a witch.
That you know they are arresting her to burn her at the stake.
Would you look out your window and say "o my, they have come to burn that witch" and do nothing, or do you fly out of house and battle to stop them.
If you hide, just peeking out the window you are as GUILTY as those that took her away to be burned at the stake.

BTW, this study even became a movie starring VIVECA LINDFORS.
One of many many tested from all parts of the earth, they chose one jewish woman that was in a concentration camp, but survived.
She was given the test. And every time she was asked to increase the pain she did so.
And even when the subject was howling in agony she obeyed up to the moment that the subject slumped over "dead"(professional actor, actually).
She could see on the meter that the next push would kill, but she did so, because she was asked( imagine simply because someone in authority ask her to and no other reason and this was a survivor of the camps, no less)
After she realized what she had done, she had a massive mental breakdown and had to be put in a mental hospital.
The movie is about this case and the lawsuit that was filed by her.
It was because of her case this test was forbidden to ever be replicated, but the hideous truth it revealed remains.
The lesson of that test(which was National News at the Time) has lived with me my entire life.
That overall over 70% of ALL PEOPLE(Jews,Germans,Africans,Chinesse---of all people) will do EVIL rather than be disobedient.
