Avastin is used off label to treat wet AMD as it is exponentially cheaper than Lucentis, which was specifically developed to treat wet AMD.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), the NIH conducted a study and determined they were both equally effective at treating wet AMD.
