Okay how about this? We take care of the PKK for Turkey, push for Turkey’s admittance to the European Union and make them an energy hub. Then we get to stash 90 nukes in Incirlik and get to restructure Iraq into six states which will give the Kurds their own state of Kurdistan and Turkey remains our regional agent for imperialist operations.

Am I getting warm? Will Turkey go for this tradeoff?

Turkey was put center stage by this U.S. plan in two ways: First, Caspian oil would be passing through Turkish territory. Second, in the maneuvering to develop the Ceyhan pipeline, Turkey's government and military has been assigned the task of infiltrating and politically influencing Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan-- the "Newly Independent States" (NIS) that will be producing the oil.

Turkey was chosen for this because it is considered a "reliable ally" of the U.S. and Germany--it is firmly dominated by U.S. and German imperialism and overseen by a fascist military that operates within NATO. In addition, the majority population of Turkey is closely related--by language and culture--to the Turkic peoples of Central Asia, including the peoples of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

The Iraqi administration has taken action following Prime Minister Ibrahim Jafaari's promise to struggle with the terrorist network Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) during his visit to Turkey last week.

Iraqi Defense Minister Saadun al-Dulaimi has proposed cooperation with the Iraqi Kurdistan Democracy Party (KDP) led by Mesud Barzani to fight against the PKK. The Minister asked the KDP administration, which provides security to Turkish borders, to fight against the PKK and all groupings linked to this organization during a one-hour meeting held in Salahaddin city the other day (May 25). Touching upon the importance of good relations with Turkey in the meeting also attended by Peshmerga commander Hamid Efendi, Dulaimi explained that following the preparation of the Constitution, they will halt activities of political formations that disturb neighboring countries. The Defense Minister also called on Efendi to prevent the PKK from crossing to Turkey from Iraq and to ensure the hand-over of Osman Ocalan, brother of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan, to Turkish officials when he is captured.

US warns against Muslim-Christian clash over Turkey
28/05/2005 - 09:35:32

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has warned that the failure of the European Union to eventually admit Turkey could have dire consequences.

She said it was important that Turkey be admitted after it meets EU standards “because what we cannot afford to have is a divide between Turkey and the rest of Europe”.

She said that “might look like what was once described as the clash of civilisations” between Muslim Turkey and Christian Europe.

“That would be a very terrible thing,” she said.

Rice made her comments after a speech at the Commonwealth Club, responding to a question about the ratification of a new EU constitution. French voters appear likely to vote against the constitution in a referendum tomorrow.

Turkey is to start membership talks in October. Many Europeans worry about admitting the relatively poor country and some see that as a factor in opposition to the constitution.

Rice said she didn’t want to say anything that could be perceived as intervening in the debate over the constitution. She noted the importance of the US-European relationship and said that the prospect of membership in the EU has served as incentive for nations in central and eastern Europe to move toward democracy.

“We believe that the European Union has been a source of stability and hope that it can continue its efforts toward integration and unification,” she said.
